Cowboy Magic is excited to announce their new partnership with two-time US Olympic Eventing Team member Boyd Martin. We took a few minutes to get to know Boyd and hear about how he uses and trusts Cowboy Magic. If you are an Eventer, we are sure you know the name. But how well do you know Boyd Martin? Let’s test your knowledge!
Boyd Martin, was recently named to represent the United States in the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. Martin is no stranger to international competition, having also represented the USA at two World Equestrian Games and winning team gold at the 2013 Pan Am Games in Toronto. Boyd comes from a sporting family in which both his parents are winter Olympians and his sister Brook is an ultra-marathon runner.
Originally from Sydney, Australia, Boyd (who has dual citizenship thanks to his American mother, Toy Martin), grew up an avid rider in Pony Club alongside Paul Tapner, who is now one of the best cross-country riders in the world.
“It was a wonderful country to grow up in and sports are very important in Australia.”
Boyd’s first mentor was champion dressage and eventing rider Heath Ryan, who has both ridden in and coached at the Olympic Games. Boyd describes Ryan as “The hardest working guy I have ever met. A wonderful guy and a role model for me.” Boyd trained with the decorated rider until he was 29 years old. He gives him credit for teaching him about running and managing a world class facility.
When Boyd was 29 years old, he brought his talent to the United States in a cargo plane with his bay thoroughbred gelding, Ying Yang Yo to compete at the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event.
“My greatest accomplishment would be walking away from a good life, a successful business and a string of horses in Australia when I was 29 years old.”
After training for 6 months with US Olympic gold medalist Phillip Dutton, Martin decided to make the United States his home. Boyd is based at Windurra, the farm he owns with wife Silva in Cochranville, Pennsylvania in the summer and at Stable View in Aiken, South Carolina during the winter months. Windurra is a self-sustaining training facility featuring dressage and jumping arenas and a galloping track, and a complete cross-country schooling course for any level of horse and rider.
Cowboy Magic is proud to be a staple in the barn and a trusted grooming product at Windurra. The natural ingredients fortify the coat and create a long-lasting shine worthy of the Olympic spotlights. The Cowboy Magic Greenspot Remover is Boyd Martin’s saving grace!
“Right at the 12thhour, before the big shows, the horses need to be spotless and clean. We use the Greenspot Remover to save the day”
Martin aligns himself with the quality and effectiveness of Cowboy Magic products. “The thing I love about your company is the quality of the products, they really work. They are high quality products for great value.” Another staple at the Windurra facility is Cowboy Magic’s Rosewater Shampoo. The sudsing action coupled with the Cowboy Magic Rosewater Herbal Blend leaves his horse’s coats silky, shiny and easy to manage.
Made in the USA, Cowboy Magic products will be in Boyd’s tack trunk as he travels to Peru to represent the USA in the 2019 Pan American Games August 1-4, 2019.
Stay tuned for updates about Boyd Martin, and how his groom Stephanie Simpson trusts Cowboy Magic to keep the horses looking their best! And as Boyd would say it, “Cheers!”
